LittleBigPlanet co-developer Tarsier Studios offered the first official look at its new game Hunger in a teaser video today that looks fantastic — and if you’ve been following games for the past 10 years or so, maybe a little familiar.
Hunger is an original game from Tarsier, which developed the PlayStation Vita version ofLittleBigPlanet and Tearaway Unfolded for PlayStation 4. Hunger is also the spiritual successor, Tarsier says, to City of Metronome, a similarly gorgeous and atmospheric game that was unveiled in 2005 but was never released.
In Hunger, players control a girl named Six as she attempts to escape a world known as The Maw.
“At its heart, Hunger is a simple idea,” Tarsier wrote on its blog. “A young girl is trapped in a labyrinth full of monsters and wants to escape. It will be your job to help her do this. It’s a genre we’re calling ‘suspense-adventure’, on account of the fact that there will be plenty of both. Coupled with an unnerving ‘Dollhouse Perspective’, tactile controls, and characters with soft, dark centers, Hunger will take your hand and let it go at the worst possible moment!”
Tarsier unveiled Hunger as a concept last year and secured €200,000 in development support from both Nordic Game and the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union.
