Publisher Versus Evil has picked up the rights to publish a new game based on the popular Afro Samurai anime series.
In development with Redacted Studios, which previously provided story to Namco Bandai’s Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, the game is said to be in development for PC and “next-gen” consoles, which we assume refers PS4 and Xbox One.
“This upcoming third person action adventure includes an original storyline, new playable characters, and improved special moves and combos which firmly establishes the franchise as the undisputed leader in dynamic dismemberment,” said the publisher. No further details were announced.
Although not thought to be connected in any way other than the source IP, the last Afro Samurai game was the 2009 Bandai Namco-developed title, which was released for Xbox 360 and PS3 under publisher Surge.
Afro Samurai is a Japanese manga and anime series which originally ran from 1999 to 2000 in manga form. An anime series that aired in 2007 stared Samuel L. Jackson as the voice of lead protagonist Afro.
